Here Are 6 Rinks to Get Your Ice Skate on in SC!

Ice, ice baby! If you live in South Carolina, ice skating probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of winter outings. Turns out, there are actually a few places where you can hit the ice! We’ve rounded up six spots to lace up, including four outdoor (that’s right, outdoor!) locations. Hurry up and get out there before they’re gone! Perfect that triple axel or, sip hot chocolate and stroll throughout the rink.

  1. Skating on the Square, Spartanburg

Spartanburg’s open-air ice rink is back at Morgan Square! From now until January 15th, circle the rink – all day, if you want – under glowing lights or sparkling sunshine. For spectators or skaters taking a break, snack on popcorn and snow cones. Located in the heart of the city, surrounded by businesses and restaurants, this rink has a hometown feel that makes it the perfect winter family tradition! Admission is $10, including skate rental. You can find more information here. Including special events and theme nights like santa skate and princess skat

2. Ice on Main, Greenville

In front of the Courtyard Marriott on Main Street, the streets have officially frozen over! If you’re in the upstate, make sure you put this outdoor ice rink on your seasonal to-do list. Whether you’re skating or watching, it’s a place to feel like you’re in a winter wonderland. Sip on hot chocolate and enjoy other seasonal treats. There is no time limit, however, the rink does hold a maximum of 150 skaters so be mindful of when you plan to get out on the ice! Check here for more on hours, dates and promo events like a “happy hour” buy one get one free deal on Mondays!

3. Founders Holiday Ice Rink, Rock Hill

Looking for your next family outing or a fun date night? We’ve got you covered. Head to Rock Hill’s open-air ice skating rink in the heart of Old Town across from Fountain Park. Every night and all day on the weekends, almost 120 skaters are welcome to get out on the ice. Be on the lookout for fun events like Harry Potter night on January 11th and a two for one skate deal every Wednesday! It’s only $10 so mark your calendar any time before January 15th.

4. Columbia’s Holiday ICE, ColumbiaFormerly located downtown and known as Main Street Ice, this outdoor rink has been a holiday pastime in the midlands for eight years. Although the rink is moving to the Columbiana Centre in the Harbison area due to construction at Boyd Plaza, the holiday staple has not skipped a beat. The rink is full of sparkle and there are tons of options to eat and shop around when you’ve skated your heart out. More information about dates, times and admission can be found here! Did we mention the ugly sweater and jingle fest parties they’ve got on the schedule!?

5. Winter Ice Skating, Florence

This one is inside, which has one major upside: you won’t ever have to worry about the weather raining on your parade! In fact, this could be the perfect way to spend those cold, rainy days! Skating is open to the public for a limited time in December at the Arena Ice Rink. Admission gets you two hours to spin, glide, slide, twirl (and probably fall once or twice) with family and friends. You can find more information here.

6. Carolina Ice Palace, Charleston

Another indoor rink and this one’s open year round but still worth mentioning this time of year! The home of the south carolina stingrays, this state-of-the-art facility offers public skating for fun as well as hockey and figure skating lessons. Plus, they’ve got special offers like Family Night on Friday and Saturday evenings where you get four admissions, skate rentals, a large pizza and two pitchers of drinks for $50! Regular skating is $8 per person. Everything you need to know can be found here! And check the Stingrays schedule for a fun night supporting our state hockey team!
