Remember the $1.5 billion Mega Millions lottery jackpot held in October 2018? We know, we tried to forget after not winning too.
Anyways, the mysterious winner finally came forward and claimed their prize and decided to remain anonymous. Can you blame them?
As previously reported by NPR, the winner chose the one-time cash payment of almost $878,000,000. The South Carolina Education Lottery Commission stated that this was the largest jackpot payout to a single winner in (get ready) United States history!
Luckily for this winner, South Carolina is a state that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous. Other states include Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio, and Texas.
The winning numbers were selected by a Quick Pick and were 5, 28, 62, 65, and 70 with the mega number being 5. The winning ticket was sold at KC Mart in Simpsonville, South Carolina.
Had the winner not come forward to collect his or her prize, it would’ve been redistributed to the 44 states that participate in the Mega Millions.
