The beautiful landscapes of South Carolina have given us a lot to be thankful for, including some amazing golf courses. Our state is full of nationally recognized courses that are appreciated by golfers and non-golfers alike. To help you master your golf game, we put together a list of the 5 best golf courses in South Carolina.

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
The name says it all. The Ocean Course is a breathtaking course that lines the coast with views of the vast Atlantic Ocean from every hole. This 72-par course is appropriately called “an American icon” on their website and has the credentials to back it up. Golf Digest has The Ocean Course ranked as the #4 public course in the nation and #25 out of the top 100 U.S. courses. Known for the unpredictable coastal winds, get ready for a challenging day on the links as you play one of the best golf courses in South Carolina.

Sage Valley Golf Club
Just outside of the home of the Masters Tournament, Sage Valley Golf Club is a private course located in Aiken County. The course sits on thousands of acres of preserved pine forest, offering a peaceful game for members and their guests. Aside from being an incredible course to play, Sage Valley has access to cottages, a full-service spa, and a Gun Club with facilities for world-class sport shooting. If that wasn’t enough, the lakes and streams surrounding the club offer an opportunity for you to fish for bass crappie and bream after playing your 18 holes.

Harbor Town Golf Links
Since 1969, Harbor Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island has seen the strokes of golf legends. Home to the RBC Heritage tournament of the PGA TOUR, this course has been named the #2 course by PGA TOUR golfers. Harbor Town’s 4-par 18th hole is said to be one of the most feared in all of golf. See if you’re brave enough!

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club
The Dunes Golf and Beach Club is another oceanfront course, but stands out as much as others on this list. Becoming a member of this Myrtle Beach club has come to be highly sought-after by golfers in the southeast. The course is consistently ranked in the top 100 golf courses in major magazine rankings and has hosted many esteemed golf tournaments throughout the years. There’s a reason The Dunes has been one of the best golf courses in South Carolina since 1949!

Furman Golf Club
Closing our list is Furman University’s course. Furman Golf Club is ranked the #1 public golf course in the Upstate and #17 in Golfweek’s ‘Best Campus Courses.’ The 72-par course in Greenville is also a qualified PGA Family Course. This course is great for all skill levels and has the appropriate tagline, “Where legends are made.”

These are just a few of the incredible courses our state has to offer, but visiting any of these courses will guarantee you a day well spent with birdies and bogies. No matter how you play, these courses will give you an experience you won’t forget! If your favorite course didn’t make the list, let us know which one it is and why it’s so great!
