Gamecocks Football Goes Back to the Glory Days

Featured Image: WIS News 10

University of South Carolina Gamecock fans look back on the 1980s as a time of success and national recognition. A decade that included George Rogers’ Heisman run and the Joe Morrison era who coached the Gamecocks to three, eight or more win seasons from 1983 to 1988, even going 10-2 in the 1984 season.

On Tuesday, South Carolina revealed their new throwback uniforms that will pay homage to the program’s legendary teams like the “Black Magic” 1984 season and the “Black Death” defense from 1987. The University of South Carolina will be one of 13 Under Armour schools sporting the brand’s line of “School Heritage” throwback uniforms.

Head Coach Will Muschamp has been clear that the team’s black uniforms have been his favorite since arriving at the UofSC. When Under Armour approached the Gamecock’s head coach last year about wanting to do a throwback jersey, he responded, “Just take the 1984 uniform and just do it.” Muschamp also stated the throwback uniforms would their full-time black jersey going forward.
