South Carolina State Park officials are continuing their “First Day Hikes” tradition again this year. First Day Hikes has been a long-standing national program intended to set people out on the right foot for the New Year by getting people immersed in nature and celebrating the beauty that exists in their own backyard.
State Parks officials are encouraging residents and tourists alike to recharge and start their New Year by exploring one of South Carolina’s beautiful hiking trails on Friday, January 1st.
The suggested hiking trails range in length from a half-mile to 3 miles and are perfect for both beginners and more advanced hikers.
While past hikes have been guided by rangers, this year’s First Day Hikes will be self-guided due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials are also requiring participants to socially distance themselves and wear a mask. Hand sanitizer, park brochures and maps will also be available at participating park offices.
