Spring has sprung in South Carolina and the state’s natural beauty is on full display for all to see. The only question is – where should you go to experience it? We’ve rounded up our top 9 favorite gardens located throughout the state that should offer some beautiful springtime views!

Brookgreen Garden

Located in Murrells Inlet, this botanical and sculpture garden is sure to wow you. From the bright flowers to gorgeous greenery to the unique artwork, you’ll love walking through just a small portion of the 9,000+ acre property.

And if you can’t make it this spring be sure to come back in December to see their “Night of a Thousand Candles”.

Middleton Place

Advertised as “America’s Oldest Landscaped Garden,” this property first took shape before the founding of our nation by Henry Middleton. With walkways that take you throughout the property, you’ll likely see both beautiful gardens as well as wildlife in the many ponds and marshland.

Magnolia Plantations & Gardens

Recently named as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel + Leisure Magazine, Magnolia Plantations’ gardens will not disappoint. Also located right outside of Charleston, this is another must-see in the state this spring.

Glencairn Gardens

If you’re visiting (or live) in the Rock Hill area – don’t miss this hidden gem. While smaller than some of the plantations discussed in this post, they still boast a variety of flowering bushes and trees like azaleas, camellias, dogwoods, and wisteria.

Cypress Gardens

Located in Moncks Corner, Cypress Gardens offers a different view than most – from the water! After the disastrous floods that have hit our state in recent years, they recently reopened on April 13th. They offer free boat rentals (on a limited basis) and paid guided tours!

Palmetto Oaks

A little less botanical garden and a little more sculptural, be sure to check out this attraction just outside of Bluffton, SC. Free-flowing, colorful sculptures can be found throughout the property and will be sure to impress. Please note their limited hours on their website

Azalea Park

If you missed the “Flowertown Festival” this year don’t fret! You can still check out gorgeous grounds and beautiful flowers in Azalea Park just outside the commercial district of Summerville, SC.

Hopelands Gardens

Another hidden garden gem is “Hopelands Gardens” located in Aiken, SC. From live oaks to wetlands and even a couple fountains, this garden won’t disappoint.

South Carolina Botanical Gardens

Located in the upstate of South Carolina, these botanical gardens not only have beautiful grounds but a giant treehouse that kids will be sure to love!
